Lin's Structural Therapy was developed by Dr. Lin Liang Chuan, a Chinese medicine orthopaedic practitioner in Taiwan. It is a hands-on method that works mainly with the tension and alignment of the fascia. Fascia runs through the whole body like a web, so long-term tension or stiffness in one area can pull on another. That's why pain in the shoulder sometimes comes from tightness in the back or hips.
Dr. Lin describes each body as having its own "shi" (勢), a natural set. When the set is right, the body moves freely. In LST we follow the lines of the fascia by hand, find the tension and restriction left by long-term posture habits, tight muscles or old injuries, and release it gradually so the body can return to its natural set.
